Jenny and Jerry wanted a classic and modern style wedding at a unique Vancouver based venue and decided on Waterview Vancouver – a unique venue with floor to ceiling windows offering lots of natural light and a view of False Creek. Jenny and Jerry found numerous ways to make the day their own, including incorporating both Vietnamese and Chinese traditions, writing their own vows, and having a family member officiate the wedding!
The day before the wedding, Jenny’s parents hosted a gathering for her immediate family and Jerry’s extended family at their home. Family traveled from all over to celebrate the bride and groom. During the event, guests were dressed in traditional Vietnamese outfits and they enjoyed Vietnamese traditional dishes along with a whole suckling pig.
On the morning of the wedding day, a traditional Chinese tea ceremony was hosted specifically for Jenny’s extended family. Jenny wore her mother’s traditional Chinese wedding dress. She and Jerry served tea to their elderly family members and we were given lai see (red envelopes) and various gold jewelry.
For the wedding ceremony and reception, Jenny and Jerry worked closely with Divine Decor and decided on a colour scheme with pinks, luscious greens, and gold accents. Jenny’s brother-in-law acted as their marriage commissioner. Because he is not a legal marriage commissioner, Jenny and Jerry also hired a “real” marriage commissioner to officially marry them on their wedding day (and to sign and submit the legal document). Jenny says, “It was so great to have Rob there as he took part in the start of my and Jerry’s relationship. His ceremony script was so personable and, in my opinion, better than anything any random official marriage commissioner could have done!”
I love how Jenny and Jerry incorporated their travels into their table numbers and seating chart (which was hand lettered by me!)
And how awesome is it that Jenny’s Pronovias wedding dress was actually the first one she tried on?!
Thank you Jenny and Jerry for letting me share your special day and for including me!
xoxo Bev
