I can’t believe that Hand Lettered Love is turning three next week! What started as an artistic hobby has grown into countless collaborations, lettering workshops, and a personal blog. There have definitely been challenges, set backs, and ups and downs but I am really proud of how my small business has grown over the past few years.
When people ask me about how I got started on my lettering journey, I tell them about how I first used chalk markers when I worked at Starbucks years ago. My lettering skills consisted of writing frappuccino flavours on our chalkboard display. Then fast forward to 2015 when my husband and I got married – I decided to letter some chalkboards as part of the decor at our wedding. They weren’t exactly the most professional looking chalkboards but I thought I did a decent job for a DIY bride. Later that same year, a friend asked me to hand letter some chalkboards at her wedding and it hit me. Could hand lettering be something that people would actually be willing to pay me to do? There was only one way to find out. I made up a hand lettered chalkboard and decided to see if I could sell it on a Facebook wedding group. When someone messaged me wanting to purchase the chalkboard, I realized that hand lettering could be a real business and I decided to just go for it!
Since I launched Hand Lettered Love by Bev, I have met so many wonderful clients and vendors who have supported me along the way (including my talented friend Kelsey of The MacLeans who took these photos for me). As a thank you for all your support, I hosted a giveaway with some of my favourite vendors on Instagram and Facebook. Congrats to @kingsjewellerschilliwack for winning on Instagram!
